How much "skid steer" ? Instead of Ackerman steering entirely, or as
a supplement to it ?
There have been plenty of skid-steer vehicles. From the little Bobcat
loaders to the prototype Rhino (last heard of at the lamented Museum
of Army Transport in Beverley). Trouble is that if you rely on
skid-steer, your tyre wear is monstrous, handling is rough and the
drivetrain becomes prone to breakages.
The Alvis Stalwart chassis had steering on 4 of the 6 wheels, but the
lack of differential action between front and back meant that they
also did a lot of skidding. Great vehicles off road but on tarmac they
were limited to 40mph, were supposed to have the drivetrain partially
dismantled before driving long distances, and had to have the wheels
"bounced" over a rock or railway sleeper every few miles to reduce
wind-up in the driveshafts. For a heavy vehicle, skid-steer puts
demands on things that start to require really heavyweight
engineering.
