There's a huge difference between lab and field.

I once wondered why the bergens we carried were steel framed and comparatively primitive compared to civilian stuff. Then I saw one of our guys on top of a mountain put his on the ground. He then kicked it all the way down the mountain, thereby saving himself quite a bit of effort.

Do you think that he would have done that if he was being watched by anyone who mattered?
