My brother (ex-USMC) seems to think that modern tanks (e.g. M1 Abrams) do not have hull-mounted machine-guns. So, do they?
One other question: how does the Israeli Merkava stack up against modern tanks? I had thought the Merkava had the thickest frontal armor plate of any MBT out there.
According to http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m1.htm
There are 3 machine guns on an M1. One is coaxial with the main gun, one is for the Commander and one is for the Loader. There is not a hull-mounted machine gun list.
