Just a few thoughts on the future of tanks in say the next 10-15 years. In this time I don't see Western armies having to fight an opponent who can meet them in the open field with the slightest hope of success, or even being more than life targets on a shooting range. There may well be a need to retain some heavy divisions but mostly I expect the War on Terrorisim (tm) is going to involve actions like Afganistan and Iraq.
You are being optimistic. Iraq used its tanks, particularly in the first Gulf War.
North Korea may have tanks. China has probably got lots of tanks. Syria and Pakistan are unlikely to be tank free. In the days of the Shah Britain sold Iran tanks.
