Chemical nanotechnology as the most simple form of
nanotechnology is already used to improve the properties of
existing materials, e.g. plastics, paints, and adhesives.
Of course, I am not talking about carbon nanotubes, but the more
affordable nano-materials, which are for example used in DaimlerChrylser/PPG's
new scratch-resistant automotive coating.
Other uses include cosmetics (nano ZnO as sunscreen) and
medicine (bio-mineralization of microscopic teeth cavities).
Compared to all the nano-science fiction these applications
do not qualify as being very thrilling, but they work and you can
sell them to real-world customers.

Oliver
