I've been following this newsfroup for a few months, and watching
articles in the general press for several years, but apart from the
"draw pictures with Xenon atoms on cold substrate" work, I haven't
seen much in the way of experimental results. The think pieces and
white papers often have a "simple next steps" section that purports to
give an easy way to get started; is anybody actually trying these next
steps? Are they not working? Are they keeping quiet while patents
are pending?

I can't imagine that everybody in the field would rather write about
how great nano is going to be, instead of hanging out in the lab and
trying to construct very small objects.
