This story has been floating around for the past week:
http://physicsweb.org/articles/news/9/7/10/1
Graphite nano-layers with the right interplanar spacing might store
hydrogen more efficiently and cost-effectively than anything else. But
again, the key seems to be in manufacturing the stuff with the correct
interplanar spacing. The researchers say this can be done by inserting
the right spacer molecules between the graphite layers.
How can this type of synthesis be achieved? Chemical vapor deposition?
How do you reliably manufacture to these fine-tolerances on a
mass-production scale?
How strong/robust would these graphite structures be, for repeated
cyclical re-use?
