Uncle Al asked on June 28, 2005, what will be the space group given a chiral
molecular structure? My interest is in nanostructures of chiral molecules.
My understanding from some literature is that most of these (70-90% of
enantiomers) are P2(1)2(1)2(1) and P2(1); and 60-80 % of racemic crystals
belong to P2(1)/c, C2/c, and P1(bar).
Kitaigorodskii deduced a similar result, with a difference of racemic
crystals to be most probably P2(1)/c system when opposite charges are taken
into account. Hope this will help. ( ) is subscript HT
