Nanotechnology Redefined

Well, originally I was reading all of the papers concerning
manufacturing atomic scale mechanical computers. After careful thought
I decided this was poppy***.
Then a company I was working for announced that they were starting a
nanotechnology group and I applied to it. After a few meetings it was
plain that those assuming leadership of the group had no idea what they
were talking about. So I bowed out of that group. Just in time as it
turned out since our subsidiary was sold off in bits and pieces and
essentially none of the personnel kept.
Now when I'm reading about nanotechnology I'm not seeing that
"classical nanotechology" but instead see this term being applied to
materials development, molecular designs and that sort of thing.
So, the question is: what is the present definition of nanotechology?
