Practical NEMS memories exist. They're based on an electrostatically
switched bistable buckling bucky springs. Arguably, this is the molecular
memory which is closest to an actual product.

A lot of existing engineering solutions are frozen chance.
It is extremely difficult to dislodge a mature technology
which profits from synergies and economies of scale with
a potentially revolutionary product.
