Uh, not really. It's already being done. My optometrist has one from
another company. There are instruments at Lick Observatory and elsewhere
that use adaptive optics to come close to Hubble quality images. These are
just the first wave that are in place. Other, more sophisticated systems
are in development.
There was nothing in that story that was untrue. If anything, it
understates the current state of things.
