It turns out that polystyrene dissolved in solvent (methyl ethyl ketone)
is commercially available, under the generic name "Q-Dope" (used for
gluing the windings of radio-frequency coils into place). Q-Dope is
available from electronics suppliers such as MG Chemicals or GC
Electronics.
One could grind a pinch of titanium dioxide pigment into diluted Q-Dope,
and use this to test the scattering effect.
