Depending on certain critical parameters, scan speed, scan angle, size
tolerance, spot size, working distance, etc., there can be ways to do
pre-focused flat-field scanning, though I would suggest that changing
the focus with a moving lens is going to be one of the slowest
approaches to the problem. I've never seen anyone even try it, probably
with good reason.
Try the OSA's Handbook of Optics v II ch. 19 (Scanners). Always a good
place to start.
