Are you sure your friend does not have a touch of dyslexia and he is really
talking about SF-2?

I do not know of any fused silica manufacturers that use FS-2 as a
designation for a grade of fused silica. I have seen in some papers where
people compare various grades of fused silica, they will arbitrarily call
one sample FS1 and the other FS2.
