Broken Ar-ion laser

We have a Melles Griot air-cooled 40 mW multiline Ar-ion laser head that is
broken. There was a flash coming from what appeared to be somewhere in the
electronics inside the case and then the laser didn't light up again. The
tube has 1300 hours. We have now bought a new head, but I wonder if it's
worth doing anything with the old laser? I suspect it is repairable if you
know what to look for.
