There are lots of characters on Usenet, of whom Jim is an above-average
specimen. The minimum differences between a character and a crazy are
that characters (a) know something and (b) will usually listen to a
concise and lucid argument. Besides, hearing Jim sound off about
Zemax, feminists, whiners, kids too lazy to do their own homework
problems, or the way you can have your house stolen by the government
of Connecticut is much more entertaining than inconclusive arguments
about armchair theories of reality or coherence between individual
photons, mostly conducted by people who apparently wouldn't know a
photon if it hit them in the eye. (Even supposing there were wide
agreement among experts on just what a photon was, which there isn't.)
Not that I want to legislate what people can or can't do on Usenet, you
understand, but sci.physics is a nice welcoming place for that sort of
stuff.
Back on your heads.
Cheers,
Phil Hobbs
