Well, "a transparent plastic material" is a very mis-leading term,
since there are so many different types of them.
Some will do nothing to the beam polarization, besides attenuating the
beam a little...while some hard plastic materials may be bi-refringent,
so what happens to the beam polarization depends on the thickness of
the material, how it is oriented in the optical path, and
/no-ne/....among other things
