Information about superluminescent diodes (SLD)?

Hello!
I am looking for information about the operating principle and structure
of superluminescent diodes (SLD). For instance I want to know more about
why it is important to avoid a resonator in SLDs and the methods to
achieve this.
Can anyone help me?
