Pechan prism and other optics trivia

Sorry, I have no historical info on the Pechan prism.

I'll use your inquiry as an opportunity, however, to invite anyone who
has other similarly interesting optics trivia questions of any sort --
not only historical queries, but optical oddities, odd or intriguing
optical phenomena or applications of optics, odd or intriguing
individuals, historical or current, in the laser or optics fields -- to
either post them here or send them directly to me. I've been collecting
similar questions for a while (for an undisclosed ulterior motive) and
would be glad to add to my collection.
