They probably wanted to hire the other guy but needed to make it look
competitive and the written rejections had to look like it was a fair
competition.
In my first position, the company sent me a rejection letter a week
after they hired me.
Go figure.
There is a lot of luck and "magic" in getting a job. I personally
offered a chicken as a burnt offering before the last job I got (went
out to Sizzler for the chicken dinner the night before I got the
offer). :-)
Conicidence ?
Chickens are always a safe offering. None of the current gods seem to
have a taboo with respect to chicken.
