We are setting up an optics workshop for several hundred elementaryThe OSA, Optical Society of America sell and optics kit that has some
grade school kids at a science fair/science math exhibition that will
be attended by about 7,000 people. The kids will build simple
telescopes using two lenses and a PVC pipe. The kids will keep the
telescopes they build for free. Our budget allows the total price for
the telescope to be only about $7.00, so we are looking for a source of
inexpensive lenses. Plastic lenses for toys would work, but inexpensive
achromat objectives from surplus items such as binoculars would be
really great.
If anyone has any suggestions for a vendor, or suggestions about where
we can look for inexpensive lenses, please contact me. If a company
wants to donate lenses for this project, we will certainly acknowledge
the source of the donation.
Thanks! Kevin
plastic lenses that might suit your needs. They do have extra stuff as well
with quantity discounts. You still might not get it down to $7. You might
also try 99¢ stores or swap meets. I go to one in Redondo Beach, CA on the
last Saturday of the month where I am sure you could find suitable lenses.
Failing that, try Edmund Scientific or Rolyn optical. Carolina Biological
Supply might also be a suitable source.
