detect if there are fluctuations in the intensity of a
light ray? These fluctuations can appear at very small intervals of
time (nano seconds or even smaller (pico)). I need a device which can
notify me about these occurences. Can I use an oscilloscope? Or this
device is used only for electric power? Or, which devices are used for
measuring the changes in the intensity of a light ray?
You start with a photodetector like a photodiode that has a response
bandwidth large enough to handle your signal. These are available
up to 100 GHz or more if you can afford it.
Then, its output can be applied to an oscilloscope with a similar bandwidth,
or to an instrument like an RF or microwave spectrum analyzer.
