For the sake of discussion, let me ask you: In your opinion,
do you think Coca Cola would have done better to disclose their
beverage formulation, and not keep it a trade secret?
The formula is not a secret. Ask any flavor chemist. "Secret" perfumes,
flavors, cosmetics, etc., are better valued by the consumer, so a cachet of
secrecy is a common marketing angle, even though you're just blending from
the same Aldrich catalog.
People who think their gadget/gizmo ideas are valuable as just misguided.
This is not uncommon. The "better mousetrap" myth. Your uncle had that
improved wrench, remember? When they get secretive about it, then they're
getting into schizoid territory.
Come back and talk when you have bragging rights. That means, you have a
genuine patent that actually generated tax-return income above the fees and
time invested. Until then, sorry, chances are about five nines that you're
a nut.
