Re: Wavelength and power measurement of laser pointer

The CD is the cheap way but you'll need at least two references to get the
reference points for the angle and wavelength spreading for the grating.
I'll also note that the CD will be needing a curved slit as the grating
lines themselves are curved. There are also cheap gratings from the amateur
side of Edmond Sci.'s which is called Anchor Optics. They're a bit better
than a CD as they are straight lines which will call for a straight slit.
If you don't want to get/make a slit, you can also use a small rod which is
highly polished to reflect the light to the grating. The slit is formed by
the reflection of the light off of the rod.

Most CDs are pretty close to 1.6 um pitch so only a single reference
is really needed unless you really want super accuracy.

The curved tracks really don't matter for a narrow beam like that from a
HeNe laser or laser pointer.
