The important thing really is that Abbe number being low to make
the glass more monochromatic.
The perfect glass would have a high Nd number and a very low Vd of 0.
This
would allow me to design a lens with no chromatic aberration and have only
one piece of glass in it.
Bob, I think you meant this just the other way around. You want high Vd to
minimize chromatic aberration.

Re: binocular glass number? ... it has high end glass -- something called military glass number? ... It depends on what you want in a binocular.... This means less chromatic aberration and less spherical ... and can be combined with them to create apochromatic lenses.... (sci.astro.amateur)
