Hi group,
I need to make some pictures of my setup, which contains a 3 mW red
laser. I am planning to do a few pictures in the dark with a long
exposure. These look already nice with just some glowing beamsplitters,
but laserbeams running through mid-air are of course much better.
I know the trick with a long exposure and quickly running a card
through the setup, but this is hard to get realy nice. Using smoke
would probably be much easier. Do any of you have have suggestions what
smoke to use?
Easy solutions might be liquid nitrogen, cigaret smoke or just some
dust. Don't know how bad that is for your optics. A professional smoke
generator is out of the question because these are usually oil-based.
I would not try dust!!!
Liquid N might be dangerous.
Maybe pellets of dry ice scattered among yr set up???
The special effects people use a lot dry ice to simulate smoke
(or so I am told).
Cigaret smoke works well, I never smoked but did bum a few cigarettes
from co-workers who did for this purpose.
Best of all (a la Bill Clinton and others) you don't have to inhale!!!! :-)
