Re: led to fiber optic coupler

A missing parameter is what the numerical aperture of the multi mode
fiber is. Do you have literature on this? The values for the index of
the core and index of the cladding can give you the numerical aperture
if those are values are known.

Numerical aperture of fiber is 0.27

Do have the LED? If not, I suggest getting one and measuring it's
parameters. Emitting size can be determined by 1:1 imaging the LED and
measuring it's imaged size or assuming it is .31 mm square. Angular
distribution can be determined by placing the LED at the front focal
plane of a lens and measuring the size of the collimated spot at the
back focal plane or assuming 15 deg circular. The size over the
effective focal length is the angular spread.

I cannot understand how I can do this. It is a 360 nm UV led
I'm considering the possibility to try to couple led to fiber trough a
saphire ball but this can be a money problem because I need more than
200 leds for my application. Anybody knows another way to do so with
a low budget?
Thanks

commercial product: maybe something useful that is commercial.
You want to match the etendue of the source with the fiber.

The 0.2 mm fiber optic: The core diameter of the fiber is 0.2 mm?
The LED has what size active area?
Is the LED emission FOV circular?
What wavelength UV?

Yes core is 0.2 mm diameter
Chip size probably is 0.31x0.31 mm
FOV is not circular I have a very limited information about this UV led
All information I have is in

I need to couple an UV 5mm led to a 0.2 mm fiber optic Led has a 15º
emission angle and I should need to collect as much radiation as
possible . Is there any standard commercial product to do this? Any
hints welcomed.
