Can you tell me something about handling HF solution? I will be also
looking more into how to use HF, but your simple comments will do more
help.
Thanks a lot!
To start with, HF doesn't just burn the skin surface. It also moves through the skin and flesh and then starts dissolving your bones.
Not good.
In addition, HF etches glass, so you can't store / use / mix it in any kind of glass or Pyrex container. Teflon only.
If you're going to be using HF regularly, you'll want to have some Calcium Gluconate gel on hand, to treat accidental exposures. What we used was a 2.5% solution of Calcium Gluconate in K-Y jelly that was made up for us at a local pharmacy.
You might get a better response on HF handling and safety issues in the sci.engr.semiconductors newsgroup. HF is used throughout the semiconductor and IC industry, at least on the silicon side.
http://www.honeywell.com/sites/sm/chemicals/hfacid/ has some good information on working with HF safely.
