Hi
We'd like to permanently bend a multi-mode fiber, 62 u core diameter, 125 u
cladding diameter.
Required bend radius - 3 mm (i.e. approximately 50 core diameters).
NA = 0.22
After bending, the fiber will be potted, so that there will be no more
movements.
The manufacturer says minimum bend radius should not be less than 10 mm.
I wonder if this recommendation is due to expected light loss, or due to
mechanical considerations.
We failed to get a good answer from the supplier.
Any idea ?

If your application allows, it use a higher NA fiber to minimize any
light loss. In addition, do not bend the fiber yourself. Ask your
fiber manufacturer to produce a fiber to your dimensions with the
correct bend radius. This will ellminate stess.
