Not all monitors accept analog video. Certainly not all monitors are compatible with all video cards.
Hmmm...next you'll need OS drivers for the power switch.Likely, especially if it's a remote power switch.
At least with Linux writing a driver for a power switch is easy, especially if you build the power switch yourself.
Yes, drivers for new hardware IS a big issue with Linux. I use Linux extensively because I can make it do what I want it to do. That may take a lot of work, but almost all Linux software has source code available and most of it's under the GNU License. (no money) That's it's big advantage but it's more work for the user. If you want "plug and play" use Windows or Mac and let them tell you what your computer can do for you, pay through the nose fore each piece, and don't get any source code so you can adapt software to you needs.
