Re: Does any body know about new light microscopes ?

Yes you are right. It was in the Newspaper and Stefan Hell got the prize
250000 Euro from Bundespräsident Köhler.
It is with fuorescence and a modification of Abbes formula. Even living
objects shall be suitable. There seem to be no
limits and many benefits in comparison to electron microskopy. They plan to
bring the improved microscope on the
market next year.

Very interesting indeed.

Thanks

The idea his, that S. Hell is not really breaking Abbes laws, but
working around them. The whole thing only works with fluorescence. He
uses a short light pulse to excite a portion of the sample ("pixel"). A
second light pulse, with a donut-like beam profile follows after this
first pulse and brings the excited fluorophore molecules outside of the
small "hole" in the center back down to the ground state. Thus
fluorescence detected from the sample will have to stem from this small
region. I hope this is a good start, I've tried to keep it very simple.
If you want a more "hard core" version, you might have a look at:

It's a nice review by Dr. Hell himself.
