Hi all,
I am for a laboratory setup looking for a lamp with a spectrum and intensity
as close to the sun as possible.
I have on different websites found references to HPS lamps mostly used for
plant growth (Cannabis etc. -:)
Has anybody ecperiece with such lamps regarding stability (both spectrum and
intentisty). Recommendations of specific lamps are very welcome!
One lamp I hear being used for this is the xenon long arc lamp. Its
spectrum is pretty close to that of the sun, except for a few strong
spikes in the near-IR around 820-1000 nm. I expect some shortwave UV to
filter out if you want to simulate sunlight below the ozone layer.
Short arc xenon arc lamps have less of the IR spikes, especially in
higher wattages. However, they have shorter life expectancy than long arc
xenon lamps and they explode a lot more easily.
