Thanks for your reply. The only reason this crossed my mind in the
first place is I've had a difficult time finding the transformer
listed in SG-SP1 and SP4 (Stancor P-6011, 650v, 70mA. I didn't
exhaust every possible source but the usual suspectes turned up
nothing. Can you point me in the right direction?

The charger section of the schematic looks to be only an inverter
however I may be completely wrong. If this is the case, could I
replace the charger portion of the schematic with a Total, High
Voltage Corp., 12vdc to 600vdc 5watt inverter I have in hand? Total
part number 600-5W. Or am I oversimplifying things too much? I have
the SSY1 Trigger and PFN, and believe all I need is a way to charge
the PFN capacitor.
I guess I wouldn't call it an inverter, just a transformer-based AC line
power supply that produces up to about 900 VDC.
A 600 V inverter 5 W inverter will take several seconds to charge to near
600 V, which is just barely enough for SSY1 to reach threshold (depends on
its health and so forth).
Also, it will be feeding into almost a short circuit right after the flashlamp
is triggered, so either it had better be designed for that sort of service,
or have a suitable series resistor to protect it.
Another easy way to charge SSY1 is with a small HeNe laser power supply
with a shutoff circuit.
