Cavity Rod Spacing

I want to try and mount a 42mm x 3.5mm YAG rod in one of the cavity
optics and frame normally used with a 60mm x 5mm rod. Physically I
can probably center it in the X, Y, Z axes but am not sure how much of
a problem the distance between the rod ends and the cavity mirrors
will be. The tubing used is a good fit on the rod and I can take the
rod all the way back until nearly touching the mirrors but just don't
know what type of mess I'm going to be dealing with. Could cut the
frame and pull the mirrors closer to the rod or move the mirrors to a
better fitting frame that I could fabricate. The slop in my
tolerances gets greater the further you read into the paragraph so I
have purposely avoided those approaches thus far. Has anyone done
anything like this before? Am I heading down the wrong road? Are
there any suggestions of how it should/could be done?
I have a nice diagram prepared but don't see a way to attach it to
this post. The distance from each rod end to its mirror is 26mm.
Good fitting pieces of thin wall aluminum tube extend from the rod
over to nearly touching the mirrors and each will be polished as well
as can be done to increase its reflectivity.
Thanks in advance....
