Hi,

I am now doing KDP2 development full time as well as KDP2 support and
optical design and analysis on a consulting basis.

I've meant to do this for years but having a day job severly
complicated running my own optical design software and consulting
business due to issues of interest conflict.

Now that I have retired from an 8 hour a day day job, I can work 16
hours a day for myself.

This is probably old hat for you but here are a few observations
regarding the optical consultancy business. Of course it's different
where I live in Michigan, where there are very few optical
opportunities, but I have found some methods that help get work for
the starving consultant.

I have found it extemely important to have a good web site. I spent
several weeks developing mine to a level with which I am fairly
happy. I have tried to emphasize the areas that are probably most
important to customers rather than the gee whiz optical work I have
done in the past. This gives me credibility with potential customers
who have never heard of me.

I thoroughly recommend Google Adwords. This is a very effective and
cheap way of finding new customers. I have obtained quite a lot of
work through this method for an expenditure of about $150.

The above may not be relevent or necessary for someone in the optical
hotbed of California. I thought I'd mention it anyway.

I am now leaving the consultancy business for a regular job. Working
for the right company in a good environment suits my skills and
desires better than the consultancy business.
