That is not tue. You don't know what you are talking about. Have ever
ground and polished your own lense before? I have. A simple home
setup can crank out 600 lenses a day.

YOU MEAN I've been paying over $100 PER LENS from mellesgriot.com, when
I
could be "cranking out" $60K worth per day with a "simple home setup"!?

Indeed, I don't know what I'm talking about.

I don't have to argue with you. I already know the process. Hundreds of
companies manufacture lenses. Armatures have been making lenses the hard
way, for hundreds of years. Just look around you! Is it not evident that
glass and plastic can easily be shaped?:

I was just curious about any new techniques since the 50's. You obviously
do not have the information I seek. So why are you letting your FAT ego
get in the way?

I came here to find information about modern lens production methods, not
argue with you.

Then check out APOMA.

Automated equipment can fab elements quickly now. However, it's still
about metrology.
There's a reason it's called AMATEUR optics. The quality can be achieved,
but amateurs seldom account properly for their time. It's usually a labor
of love. Not one motivated by profit.

Without a full understanding of quality, there is no sense in discussing
volume production.

I disagree. It is possible to achieve whatever quality desired. The gadget I
am going to invent will be disposable. I do not need high precision optics
anyhow. I just need hundreds of thousands according to one particular
specification. I am certain I can achieve the precision I need. I'm looking
to discuss techniques, not debate whether or not it is feasible or possible.

Besides Armature telescope makers have been producing high quality optics
for years. I ground and polished an 8 in Pyrex mirror to a precision of a
faction of the wavelength of light.

Too many people these days have the mentality that only huge manufactures
can make quality products. Technology is drastically advancing and many
things not possible before are possible now.
