I apologize, I am an instrumental optics person, i.e. telescopes,
microscopes, lenses of various kinds, metrology stuff and the
like so I am a little bit puzzled.

How come this question has not been settled yet?

Apparently it has been around for decades...

I find this a bit curious considering its interest, theoretical and
possibly practical.

With all due respect we are not talking about some Grand Unified
Theory or the search for the Higgs boson.

OK. I have ridiculed myself once more probably.
