Where is the best place to ask questions about which light
wavelengths/colors are used by plants to photsynthesize and
which are wasted? It really isn't an optics question, but
I didn't see any biology group that looks right either...
Try: sci.bio.botany for questions about plants.
A chart of the relative absorbance versus wavelength for chlorophyll a and b
can be found at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Chlorophyll_ab_spectra.png
(It appears that the vertical axis is not labeled.)
Use Google and the keywords: chlorophyll absorbance spectrum results in
many links. A plot with a labeled vertical axis is shown at:
http://www.mbari.org/staff/ryjo/cosmos/Cabs.html
Hope this helps (my background is primarily in physics, not botany).
