Im not sure what im learning from following these threads, but I think
it has something to do with learning what not to do. It is useful
stuff, and compliments books nicely.

Oh yes. I can quantify one thing that I have learned: just because you
spent a shitload of time on something does not mean it is good. The
pile of crumpled paper on the floor, and Y. Porat, articulate that
point nicely.
