Why would it *not* hold up in the case of free neutron decay? Or did you
not understand the explanation?

People generally have better things to do with their time than to calculate
minuscule corrections to well-known numbers. On the other hand, professors
often treat their graduate students as people with time to do any job, no
matter how pointless or stupid. . .
