MENOPAUSE
To a girl
The pivotal points
In her life are when
She begins menstruating
And when she stops.
The former turns her
Into a woman capable
Of having children
The latter tells her that her
Childbearing days are over.
In both instances her
Altered hormone mix
Drastically affects the
Way she feels and acts
But with a difference.
Puberty is the birth
Of womanhood whereas
Menopause signals its end.
For those who had children
Menopause means freedom.
But for career women
Who did not, it means that
Now they will never know
What it feels like to suckle
A baby at their breast.
Mother Nature doesn't fool around
Regardless of her modern mindset
The knowledge that she will never
Have a child of her own will cause
A woman to question the future
Of the continuous relationship
With any man-friend or mate
Because she "wasted" her nubile
Years on him and now
It is too late.
This is the time where
The man should show
His love and tell her
That nothing has changed
And that he still loves her.
While the mature woman should
Accept her new status in life
And see a doctor regarding
Hormone replacement therapy
To relieve her emotional turmoil.
With care and luck
A couple can survive
The emotional upheaval
But it won't be easy and it
Will take hard work.
Above all a woman
Should refrain from blaming
Others for her troubles
And accept the fact that if she
Has anyone is to blame, it is herself.
