  They do if you use the common sense that would go along with
using sine waves in a description of some phenomenon. No one
is born with common sense. What differs between individuals is
the point the individuals decide they are satisfied that they
have all the common sense they need.

  Usually, what appears to not make sense initially, makes a lot
more sense once one tries to make a ``more sensible'' idea work
