If according to Pias Einstein made a bad remark about Poincare then the
contents of that remark must be correct?!

Fine. It's OK if you state that Einstein claimed so according to an unknown
source of Pias.

Of course it can be. If you quote a rumour spread by CNN or BBC as if it is
a verified fact then it is still propagating a rumour.

In my experience "reputable" sources are not so much better than doubtful
sources that they can be relied upon. Thus now I give almost *no* weight to
second hand sources.
