You're right Bill. Science is a particular way of viewing the world based on
correspondence with experiment( I dare say with a "good" mathematics too!!)
"using" a specific "epistemology".

I'm afraid that you are confusing the term philosophy with the term
"epistemology".

Philosophy means "love for knowledge". And scientists love to know about
reality using a certain epistemology that we use to call "science".

I said that "love for knowledge"(science) is something different from
technique.

"Love for knowledge"(science) is differnet from engineering.

A scientist is different from an engineer.

Philosophy is the name that we give to our "love for knowledge" PURE
knowldge. Knowledge of our universe and of ourselves!!

Engineering is "love" to build, love for dominate our real world.

Androcles said that in a very good way. He said:" I love mathematics because
that's like art and I don't care if you can apply that mathematics or not".

I think that science is like pure mathematics, you like to discover, to
understand, because you LOVE to know our universe and ourselves.

Engineering is like mathematics that you use for application. You need of
that mathematics because of your physics, chemistry, biology and so on.

Nowadays a philosopher(a scientist) can know our universe, ourselves and
make up "new" knowledge ONLY IF he/her knows science.

People that do NOT know science, CANNOT make up "new" knowledge. Because if
you want to discover something "new" you need to know what we already know.

I know that this is a very difficult subject. And most of people think that
is an easy subject.

But I remind you that I can say that because I know what science is.

We need to know what are our boundaries about our knowledge, our present
knowledge to distinguish a pure speculation from science.

e.g.(for example.......Latin: Exempli Gratia) For instance:

Einstein knew Newtonian mechanics, but he tried to think about a new kind of
mechanics, he found some trouble in classical physics.

While he was doing that, he was "loving" knowledge. His purpose was to
understand our universe and not to "build" a bridge!!

And everybody knows that what we use to call "philosophy" about the past
nowadays is called science.

Newton used to call physics "natural philosophy"!!

So, what's the matter with you?

Why don't you study a bit of history of physics?

They have told you that a lot of time, and you still think that a "little"
dictionary is good enough to understand that.

Dear Bill, you need a good book of history of science, and not a little
dictionary if you want to talk about this very difficult subject.

If you like, I can suggest you a good history of science, history of
physics , history of psychology , history of sociology , history of biology,
, history of chemistry, , history of mathematics, , history of logic, and so
on.

Franco
