Not at all.
The Algol type curve can result from EITHER one single star or two that are
eclipsing.
No wonder astronomers are confused.

Indeed it must.
Light speed is initially c relative to source. It stays that way until cetain
conditions are experienced in the space it traverses.
What happens subsequently is anyone's guess.
