Gravity is due to the curvature of spacetime produced by the prescence of
matter - thats a concept that can be modelled mathematically, and some
people need to calculate exact results, so thats really where the maths
comes in. But maths has time and again predicted physical fact way ahead of
the discovery of said phenomenon and thats where its real value lies.
