The following is an updated scenario of the Bill and Paul in space suits
type and includes the effects of length contraction and time dilation
with some reasoning as to the cause of these effects.
We start with Bill and Paul at rest relative to each other in the centre of
a sphere of stars 20 light years away who's average velocity relative to
Bill and Paul is zero. Both Bill and Paul have monochromatic light sources
of which the other has the frequency of and is able to detect any variation
of.
They know they are stationary relative to the surrounding star field by
evaluating the hydrogen spectral line shift from the surrounding stars and
averaging the results. They do some tests and discover that they can
determine their velocity with respect to each other and the surrounding star
field by measuring the Doppler\frequency shift of the surrounding star field
and
each others monochromatic light source.
Now they also have watches that they can compare and they find
that if one of them travels away and returns from the other at a c/2 for
example then on his return he finds his watch reads an earlier time to the
other who remained relatively stationary but if they both move away and
return then their watches agree. Weird ain't it as it appears moving slows
you down and you age more slowly. So get off the sofa and run about
otherwise you will be dead earlier :-) Now what is the mechanism for this
weird effect, well we know that as you move faster the shorter you get if
you are going head or feet first and this means that the atoms that make up
your body will be distorted into an ellipsoid shape. Now atoms that have
distorted into an ellipsoid will work/oscillate more slowly than atoms in a
more relaxed spheroid shape. I think this will be shown by the hydrogen line
being shifted when generated by an atom or particle under single axis stress
and other measurements.
The relationship of some of the more common effect are relateted in the
rotational graph below. The pointer arms can be moved in and out
from x as well as rotated clock or antclock .

offset from reference: in = indeterminacy
The vertical axis is Duration, Volts, Charge, Quantum effects : The
horizontal axis is Length, Quantum, Amps, Power factor
The indicator lines which are supposed to be at 90 deg to each other and
vary both in a pivotal on x as an axis way and in length to indicate
velocity, length, duration, volts, amps, wattage, indeterminancy with
suitable scaling.

This is how velocity on two paths works in respect to aging.

There are a number of possible paths between T1 and T2 as in fig1 the
one you and I are following at the moment is for example path (c) the long
and windey one. Just think about it, were whizzing round on the earth and
this is whizzing round the sun and this is whizzing round the centre of the
galaxy and that is whizzing round etc so our normal spatial path is a very
long and complex helix and this also applies to our path through time.
In the normal course of events your body and my body and all the other
bodies in this cosmos including sun and planets etc move on this complex
path so the process/time rate of the cosmos is the average of the complex
sum of all the complex paths it contains. So as get it all to T2 at the same
time and some bits don't get left behind and some bits go to fast and get
lost there are compensating mechanism in place to make sure that
everything arrives from then T1 to now T2.
This compensation is both position/spatial and age/process adjustment at
the very grass roots level and it works like this and its fairly simple.
As you go faster spatially you go slower process wise and if you go faster
process wise you go slower spatially. These compensators only need to
keep you inside this cosmos spatially and process wise so they only start to
be a significant effect went you might be going to escape this cosmos and
break into another that has a different set of spatial and process
parameters.
So back to fig 3. If we think of path c as half an orbit of the earth then
we have no trouble in knowing that after we have followed that path we will
be 6 months older, according to our reckoning on earth. So T1 to T2 takes 6
months from the pov of somebody on earth. Now if we take a space ship from
T1 to T2 along path (d) and for convenience we will move the sun out of the
way when needed then we have a number of optional speeds.
1) We wish to arrive at T2 at the same space/time as those on path (c) so we
have to go a lot slower as our path is shorter but our process rate must is
higher otherwise we would end up at T2 younger than those on path (c). This
results in us all, both path (c) and (d) arriving at T2 ~together having all
~aged the same amount. That obvious don't you agree ?
2) We wish to arrive spatial at T2 but we wish to go slower still along path
(d) so we speed up spatially and slow down process wise and we get to T2
younger the those on (c). How do we do this you ask perhaps and the answer
is fairly simple. We shove the throttle wide open and go for a nap and
assuming the autopilot kicks in and stops us at T2 and there are no bumpy
bits, we arrive at T2 refreshed and younger than those on path (c) who have
had a terrible time what with earthquakes etc. That's not so obvious but you
know its true don't you ?
3) We wish to arrive spatially at T2 but we wish to go faster along path (d)
so we take a handful of amphetamine and set the auto pilot to arrive at T2
when those on path (c) arrive. We then rush about like a mad thing and
arrive at T2 total shot and a lot older.That's not so obvious to some but
most of you know its true don't you ?
Now you may think that the above is a load of rubbish and if you prefer to
believe that matters is made of dried rabbit drooping in the bottom of a
cosmic magicians hat then good luck to you and all who sail in you. But
remember that atomic clock that have been recovered from orbit read
differently to a ground based reference and that GPS needs soft compensation
and that moving muons do live longer than parked ones etc and you might then
think the above may not be so daft just perhaps amusing. I think the
possible perceived discrepancy between the atomic clock and a person is
perhaps that atomic clocks are very bound up in themselves and have little
concern for their surrounding except on an atomic level whereas a person is
not so easily fooled by cosmic compensation and tends to correct for it
unconsciously hence the nap and amphetamine but the earth and the space ship
will be subject to these effects, more obviously at high velocities.
Speculation:-
The characteristics and coefficient of a vacuum are very small and can
probable be worked out from cosmic red shift (CRS), entropy and orbital
decay etc although any cosmic expansion found may have to be factored in. If
the coefficient of vacuum was zero EMR would have no brakes and its velocity
would be infinite.
What are the brakes and what are they made of. ? I dont think this has been
clearly explained by your education?.
I may have come across this in relation to zero point energy although I
think it most probable that what we see as zero Kelvin is in fact an offset
from a base that may not yet have been detected. Some of the reasoning
behind this view is that to modulate a charge onto vacuum with more than one
half cycle you need an offset otherwise you cannot produce a negative half
cycle.(note:- see new double slit experiment.)
The modulation being by contraction/dilation of the vacuum which is pointed
to on a larger scale by the Lorenz transforms and the Space-time gravity of
Einstein although some tweaking of the formulas used maybe required to
improve their accuracy in some cases and their application may be in error
again in some cases.
To be able to view solids from a one dimensional perspective it seems to
require at least 4 spatial dimensions plus one of time and one of duration
as a bare minimum, interrogating the state of matter may require more.
Something somebody said suggests that to evalute anything accuratly you need
three frames at least, the source frame, the vacuum/medium frame and the
observer frame.If you discard the middle one your understanding of events
may be limited.
7) Possible aids to basic math model of field line stucture in vacuum :-

in cgs units; +,- sqrt(4pi*eps0*hbar*c) for the
SI :-7b attenuation of 1/d^2 + state boundry at (G ????)
These will I hope be fully be expanded to the full base equations for
vacuum-space during the development of this text.
