Perhaps if I state the reason we are doing it.

If we want to measure the Coulomb force we can simply
charge a capacitor and wedge a bathroom scale between
the plates.

If we want to measure the Lorentz force we want to
slide the charged plates past each other because the
force acts at 90 degress to the motion. All kinds of
geometry problems and:

Above about 200 Hz, springs start flying out of the
apparatus: the owner starts complaining of a diet
sliding and overloaded plates...ect.

The coils and shields of a selective coupling structures aren't
actually eliminating either component, they are simply
balancing one against itself, so we can observer the other.

So, work to your hearts content to un-unify electromagnetism.
if you like. The key is likely in the same drawer where the
magnetic monopoles are stored. ;-)
