Sue Jahn, I agree with your observations about Bush being
intellectually mongrel (that why he is attracted to a schoolmarm?), but
I think the reason you can't see the connection is because there is
more to Bush than just fanatical religion.

You forget he used all the tricks available to him to get out of going
to Vietnam, yet he hated Kerry for becoming an antiwar protestor. What
is a coward if not the penultimate hypocrite?

He is a worst leader for a democratic republic than any of us could
have imagined. All the rights won by those who have fought in all our
wars are in danger today of being taken away not by an evil empire or
an insane dictator but by a US president who justifies his acts by
claiming that his god speaks to him, and who believes there is a
disconnection and a connection between evangelical Christianity and his
political decisions at once and the same time.

A leader who believes he has made no errors in his responses to events
when clearly the evidence shows otherwise, whose responses have cost us
US lives lost and untold misery on others, who mistakenly proclaimed
victory too soon, who believes that what's good for Cheney Inc is good
for the US, who has staff who like him ignored Saddam's clue of what
was to come after he was deposed and even still act like they did not
hear it, who....I cannot just go on and on. I can only hope the US
survives the current right wing assault on substantive rights in
America as we lose everything else we own to them.
