Einstein was intelligent as indicated by both IQ tests and his scientific
accomplishments. But the validity of his works and ideas, indeed the
validity of what anyone says or writes, is not dependant on how intelligent
they are - it is dependant on what they say or write. That of course does
not mean when someone of proven accomplishments in an area writes something
we do not give it the respect it deserves even if we think it is wrong.
Often the reason we think it is wrong is we do not understand it. And this
is the whole problem with the idiots Dirk catalogues. They arrogantly
believe their misunderstandings are valid objections - and to those that
have expended the time and effort to understand it is obvious they are not
valid objections. They do not even concede they may not understand it. It
is all consistent with 'Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in
Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments'
http://www.phule.net/mirrors/unskilled-and-unaware.html.
However their arrogance will not allow them to take the crucial step of
improving their skills so their misconceptions can be corrected. I also
suspect they have a desire to feel special - and indeed what can be more
special than being able to see what all these supposed smart guys can not.
Thanks
